Marco box office collection Day 9: With the Hindi markets gradually opening to accommodate Marco, it is expected that the violent action thriller will grow from strength to strength in its second week.

Marco box office collection Day 9: Goriest film of the year. Most violent Indian film of the year. First reboot that is a bloody action thriller unlike anything seen in Malayalam cinema so far. Unni Mukundan’s Marco, directed by Haneef Adeni, is one of the unlikeliest Malayalam films to create such an intense conversation. But, somehow, a lot of things about the film has clicked so perfectly that it has become the talk of the town in not just Kerala but other centres too. The film, which hit the screens last week, made Rs 27.6 crore in the first week with Rs 27.32 crore coming from Malayalam, and just Rs 0.28 crore from the Hindi version. However, the tide is definitely changing as the Hindi version made Rs 0.25 crore on the 2nd Friday, which is just a few lakhs shy of the numbers made in the entire week. After nine days of its run, the numbers of Marco stands at Rs 32.6 crore.

With the Hindi markets gradually opening to accommodate this violent action thriller, it is expected that Marco will grow from strength to strength in its second week. With the Saturday numbers at Rs 2.7 crore, which is a decent increase from the Friday numbers of Rs 2.3 crore. The best part of Marco’s dream run has been its consistency in the first week. In comparison, over the same time period, the big-ticket Mohanlal film, Barroz, made Rs 1.1 crore (Friday) and Rs 1.25 crore (Saturday).
Marco made Rs 14.1 crore in the first three days, and despite some tough competition from both Malayalam, and other language films, the movie stood its ground to make Rs 13.5 crore over the next four days, cashing in on the Christmas holidays. While the numbers have faced a slight dip over the weekend, the lack of competition this week in the Malayalam circuit, and with reports suggesting increase of screens in the Hindi market, it could be a fresh lease of life for this actioner.
Another heartening aspect of Marco’s run is how the Saturday occupancy was at a healthy 38.59 %. The numbers of Marco take even more prominence when compared to the numbers of the big-ticket Hindi film, Baby John, which had a much wider release, and yet, managed to earn just Rs 4.25 crore on Saturday. So, it lends credence to reports that Marco might have an extended run in the Hindi market.
